Illinois jobless losing 20 weeks of benefits this month
Illinois' improving unemployment rate is coming at a cost for about 20,000 of the state's long-term jobless, who will lose up to 20 weeks of their extended unemployment insurance benefits this month.
In the week ending May 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 370,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised figure of 370,000. The 4-week moving average was 375,000, a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average of 379,750.
On Tuesday, May 1, Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) services specifically assistance with unemployment insurance will no longer be available at the Waukegan Job Center at 1 N. Genesee St.
